Taking Care of Business

About a month ago, we were enjoying the early evening on the front patio, and a Hawk Moth came buzzing by, focused on its job of finding sugary nectar to keep it going through the night.  Although they are only interested in one thing – nectar – they unknowingly pick up pollen and transport it to other flowering plants, helping ensure the survival of many plants.

The amazing thing about this insect is that it can travel 18 miles or more each night, drinking nectar and transporting pollen.  Just taking care of business.

Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.

                                                               2 Timothy 2:15

I hope that I am a worker like this Hawk Moth – being about my Father’s business every day and going the distance –  helping others, texting an encouraging word, teaching little children about Jesus,  being a servant.   Being proud to be an ambassador for Christ and understanding and demonstrating the word of truth.

I wonder if Hawk Moths ever complain?

“I am so tired of these flowers being so far away from each other.”

“It’s too hot out here in the desert.  I wish I lived somewhere cooler.”

“Can’t this flower be a little sweeter?”

I doubt it.  They are, after all, taking care of business.  Sadly, I do complain.  Way too often.  And when I do, I am reminded about this verse:

Do everything without grumbling or arguing,  so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.” Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky as you hold firmly to the word of life.

                                                               Philippians 2:14-16

Perhaps we can take a tip from the Hawk Moth.  Traveling miles and miles each week, they have a focused goal.  We need to have a focused goal as well –if we are going to be a follower of Jesus – let us be one every day.  Without complaining.

And, as we continue on our journey, being fueled by God’s love, we will spread love and joy and peace and kindness and many other attributes to others along our way.
